Indian Navy Carrier Fleet – A Fan boy’s Fantasy
fleet
This article is about my take on the
carrier navy fleet of india and my wish of an Indian carrier fleet comprising
my favorite ships and submarine.
Carrier strike groups are the core of any
demoniating blue water navy. After independence, the indian navy wanted itself
as a power projection navy rather than an area denial navy. Meaning it wanted a
carrier strike group capability and amphibious fleet capability. This belief
was more hardened after the India – Pak war for Bangaladesh. Seeing how a
carrier strike group of America used to power project on the Arabian sea. Navy
wanted to become a power projection course with a carrier strike group.

INS Vikramadithya
Here, is my wishlist of an Indian carrier strike
group,
First, The aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya,
a heavily modified Russian Kiev class cruiser. Currently it operate Mig 29 K,
But my wish for this magnificent ship’s air asset is Rafael M. Mig 29 K has its
own set of problems like it is heavily modified carrier operating aircraft and
its inability to take with max load is a weakness for the navy. So Rafael M
will boost the navy’s capability.
For Anti- Aircraft role should be given to
2 ships, namely Visakhapatanam class destroyer and Talwar class frigate. Both
are excellent in anti-aircraft roles. Barak 8 is an excellent platform for eliminating
air threats. Talwar class ship
In addition to this, a Shivalik class
frigate should be present in the carrier group for an additional boost for the
carrier multi-role capability.
The anti-Submarine role should be given to
kamorta class corvette. This corvette should be supplemented with the new
MH-64R helo from the USA.
For Submarine, Newly inducted Kalvari
class submarine should be used with AIP fitted. INS Kalvari submarine
Auxillery fleet tanker and support ships should
be included as per need they should be closely kept in the middle of the
carrier fleet.
For navy readers and veterans, It is just fanboy
article may contain many flaws, so pardon me if any.
